Carson City adult softball leagues, AYSO youth soccer open as COVID restrictions loosen
Recreational adult softball leagues and youth soccer in Carson City are back for the spring and summer seasons. After a long year of empty fields due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teams are beginning to form again in anticipation of regular season games.
Organized by the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, adult softball teams have become a warm weather passtime of many. Parks and Rec offers leagues for men, women, and even a co-ed option, according to the Parks and Rec website.
A spring and summer men’s competitive league will begin play on May 10, every Monday and Wednesday. Game times vary and there is a $528 fee per team. Registration for all leagues can be found at www.carson.org/ccpr.
Coed teams for the spring and summertime will begin play on May 14. Games will be held every Friday and the team fee is $264. The women-only league will begin May 18, games held on Tuesdays, with a team fee of $528.
A men’s recreation team for the spring and summertime will begin May 18. Games will be played every Tuesday and the team fee of $264.
Summer and fall leagues will also be available for registration in July. Men’s competitive league begins on Aug. 6, running Mondays and Wednesdays, with a team fee of $528.
A summer and fall coed league also begins on Aug. 6, playing on Fridays, with a team fee of $264.
Teams must provide uniforms for themselves. All players in every league must be 18 years or older to participate. All games will be held at the John D. Winters Centennial Sports Complex.
Additionally, 6V6 adult soccer leagues will begin their summer season at the Centennial Sports Complex. Three leagues including men’s, women’s, and a master’s 35+ are scheduled to begin on Jun. 10, playing every Thursday. The fee is $66 a player. Participants must be 18 years or older.
AYSO Carson City Youth Soccer is also up and running for the spring season. According to assistant regional commissioner of the league Crystal Kenison-Novotny, all age groups are still open for sign-ups with the exception of 8U despite games starting last Saturday, April 17.
Parents can sign their child up for the spring league, running until the last week of school on Jun. 3, at www.aysocarsoncity.org Kenison-Novotny said. The only competitive team within the league, a 10U girls team, may run longer into the summer depending on the team’s success.
As for the structure of the season, Kenison-Novotny said AYSO is only allowing one spectator per child, due to social distancing, and masks are strictly enforced for anyone on the field except for those children playing.
Temperature checks and a 10-questionnaire COVID-19 survey will be taken upon entrance into the soccer fields.
According to Kenison-Notovnty, AYSO is all parent volunteers. She said the league is struggling for volunteers and those interested can message AYSO’s Facebook page to learn more. In addition, parents are asked if they would like to volunteer once they make their child an account on the AYSO sign-up website.
