V&T Railway offers spring railbike rides beginning this Saturday

V&T Railway announced Tuesday that its railbike rides, in partnership with Freedom Rail, return beginning this Saturday, April 17.

Pedal your way through history aboard a Freedom Railbike along the historic Virginia & Truckee train route. Your journey takes you into beautiful Carson River Canyon along an exciting, curved, and gradual 2 percent grade track system to the historic Eureka Mill rest area.

Our motor-assisted, pedal railbikes provide a comfortable trip out of the canyon, across the V&T Railway highway bridge to an additional historic site, the Halfway House Stage Stop. Here you will enjoy a water and a complimentary snack. This one of a kind tour is 90 minutes and is for all ages. Passengers must be able to pedal for an extended time period.

The April schedule is Wednesday through Sundays. Ride Times: 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The demolition of the Kinkead building at 505 East King Street in Carson City continues. The demolition contract was awarded to local contractor Advance Installations, Inc. A high reach demolition excavator and Bobcat front loaders have been gutting the inside of the building from the bottom up, according to Deputy Public Works Administrator Chris Chimits.

Highway 395 remains closed Tuesday at the Nevada-California state line as firefighters continue to battle the Chris Fire that began Monday west of U.S. Route 395, about five miles north of Sonora Junction near the Chris Flat Campground.

Friends to All is dedicated to bringing joy, cheer and friendship to senior citizens in the Carson City community during the holiday season. FCCPR presents Open House honoring Native American Heritage Month.

November is National Native American Heritage Month. In recognition of that, the Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation is hosting an open house and exhibit of selected examples of two- and three-dimensional Native American art at the historic Wungnema House in Mills Park, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017.

UPDATE 10:15PM: Seven teenagers injured in a single vehicle rollover accident last Thursday night on Kings Canyon Road will get additional support from the local community as Carson City businesses are donating proceeds to help pay for medical costs.

Sierra Nevada Forums and Capital City Sustainability Partnership will present a discussion on "Living Sustainably" this Tuesday night at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall.
