Donations sought for Ariel the injured Carson City Daschund, Buba the mini Schnauzer
It’s been quite the week for Nevada Humane Society as a number of injured pets are arriving at the shelter. Every story is different and every life matters, but right now Ariel and Buba need your help.
Ariel, a Daschund who is almost six, was a stray when she arrived at Nevada Humane Society Carson City earlier this month. Right away the staff noticed something different — Ariel had no use of her back legs. Nevada Humane Society’s vet team say it isn’t a new condition and that Ariel has probably been like this for some time.
No one came forward to claim Ariel, and she wasn’t microchipped. She acts completely normal and her resilience is strong. Knowing surgery wasn’t an option and that her quality of life was good, Nevada Humane Society ordered a custom wheelchair, size XXS, and it arrived Friday afternoon.
Ariel was fitted to the chair, and then, as everyone watched, she raced down the hallway like she had been doing this for years. Her tail wagged nonstop, expressing the joy of her newfound freedom. Ariel could now get around normally.
Buba is a seven-year-old Mini Schnauzer who arrived at Nevada Humane Society in Reno after being hit by a car. Sadly, his person couldn’t afford the vet care after the accident, and in order to give Buba the care he deserved, he was relinquished to Nevada Humane Society.
Buba was rushed into Nevada Humane Society’s veterinary clinic. He had wounds all over his body, bad hemorrhaging and bruising. His appearance wasn’t good and he wasn’t alert. Buba was in shock.
Radiographs revealed Buba was lucky — no internal fractures or broken bones. Buba sustained severe external injuries that would take time to heal, but he was going to be okay. His sweet personality quickly came out once he was over his shock and staff soon learned Buba was a charming and affectionate little fella.
Buba and Ariel are just one example of animals helped by Nevada Humane Society — but lifesaving isn’t without cost. Nevada Humane Society is asking for monetary support for Buba and Ariel. If you can help, please make a donation to Nevada Humane Society’s Emily’s Fund for Injured Pets.
Contributions are tax-deductible and can be sent to 2825 Longley Lane, Reno, NV 89502 or credit card donations may be called into 775-856-2000, ext. 324. Thank you for helping Nevada Humane Society save lives.
