Hope Sullivan named Carson City's new planning manager
Hope Sullivan has left her Planning Manager position in Douglas County and stepped into the Planning Manager position for the Carson City Planning Division. Sullivan served as the Planning Manager in Douglas County for the past two years.
Sullivan has nearly twenty years of experience as a municipal planner, and has also worked in construction and property management in the private sector. Sullivan has a master’s degree in regional planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sullivan will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and directing the staff and operations at the City’s permit center, as well as providing technical support to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and the Historic Resources Commission with respect to development projects and development policy.
After three years managing the City’s Planning Division, former Planning Manager Susan Dorr Pansky is transitioning to a part-time position working as the Special Projects Planner for the City’s Community Development Department.
According to Pansky, this will allow her to spend more time with her young children.
Pansky came to Carson City with 10 years of experience working as a planner in the private sector. As the Special Projects Planner, Pansky will be working on projects such as streamlining the special event application process, reviewing applications for the new façade improvement program, modifying the General Industrial zoning district surrounding the Carson City Airport and updating the Land Division, Zoning, Business License and Liquor License codes as necessary. She will also continue to provide support for the Planning Division on development applications.
Community Development Lee Plemel stated, “Everyone was sorry to see Susan step down from the Planning Manager position. She is well respected by City staff and the customers that we serve. The City is fortunate to get Hope, who is an experienced planner manager who brings a customer service perspective to the position.”
Plemel also noted that there has been a recent increase in development projects coming through the Community Development Department, so being able to keep Pansky part time will help the department keep up with current projects while also identifying opportunities for streamlining and improving procedures.
