Carson City arrests: Driver jailed for DUI following pursuit says he never saw emergency lights

A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday for multiple offenses related to an alleged DUI, where the driver failed to yield when a sheriff's deputy attempted to make a traffic stop.

According to a booking report from the Carson City Sheriff's Office, a deputy patrolling the area of West Koontz Lane and South Carson Street observed a vehicle perform a high speed turn into a grocery store parking lot, then going through a drive-thru and then driving to another parking lot, where he accelerated and made another high speed turn onto Koontz Lane without slowing or coming to a complete stop.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the driver, activating his red and blue lights. The driver didn't stop, continuing in the center turn lane, passing another vehicle, and then going through an intersection without slowing or making a complete stop, driving recklessly at speeds of at least 60 mph before turning onto Baker Drive, the report states.

The driver then continued northbound on Baker Drive approaching Gillis Way and passed an oncoming pickup at a high rate of speed before running through the stop sign at the intersection of Sonoma and Baker.

The driver continued, not stopping for the officer, before coming to a stop in front of 800 Armstrong where he attempted to exit the vehicle. The officer instructed him to stay in the vehicle and put his hands in the air. Officers detained the man and did a search for weapons.

A deputy conducted an interview, and asked the man why he failed to pull to the side of the road when he saw the officer's flashing red and blue lights. The man stated he never saw the red and blue lights.

When asked if had any alcoholic beverages he stated he had approximately 2 drinks after work, at around 10:30 p.m. He agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .175.

The deputy learned through dispatch the man had been previously charged and convicted of two DUIs in 2010. He was booked into Carson City Jail for suspicion the following offenses: gross misdemeanor DUI failure to yield, misdemeanor DUI, reckless driving, overtaking and passing in a no passing zone, speeding 21 mph-plus in excess of posted speed limit and failure to yield for a traffic control device. Total bail amount listed: $4,630.

In other arrests:
— A 23-year-old Rosamond, Calif., man was arrested Monday for misdemeanor suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and sales/furnishing/assist in giving alcohol to minor.

According to the booking report, at around 9:08 a.m. a deputy located the 23-year-old male in his vehicle with a 17-year-old female.

Both subjects were in the rear seat of the vehicle and a bottle of vodka was located on the floor board where the female was sitting. The male said he purchased the vodka at the female's request, the arrest report states.

He said he drove to Carson City from Rosamond, Calif., after speaking with the female via social media, the arrest report states.

Based on information provided by the man, and observing the alcohol in the immediate area of the 17-year-old juvenile, the officer placed the man under arrest for the two misdemeanor offenses involving alcohol and a juvenile. Bail: $1,274.
