Save Mart on Highway 50 East now closed
The doors of the Save Mart Supermarket on Highway 50 East in Carson City closed for business on Saturday, March 26, to make way for the store's conversion to Food Maxx, security personnel on the property said today.
The grocery chain decided in February to turn the property at 3325 Highway 50 East into a Food Maxx grocery store, a warehouse-style brand owned by Save Mart Supermarkets, Inc.
Security personnel on site stated that the venue will be closed for about the next four or five months as the store undergoes remodeling for its conversion to Food Maxx.
Food Maxx is expected to open some time in August, security personnel said, with no specific date set yet.
In a February interview, store spokeswoman Nannette Miranda told Carson Now that current employees of the store would be offered positions at other area Save Mart stores during the remodel, or they would have the option of applying for new positions being added at Food Maxx.
The pharmacy at the Highway 50 East Save Mart will remain permanently closed and prescriptions transferred to either the location at Clearview Drive and South Carson Street, or the store located at the corner of College Parkway and North Carson Street.
Foodmaxx operates 52 stores throughout Northern California, and will add the Carson City store and another in Sparks to its list.
