Reno man arrested for failure to register as a sex offender
A 54-year-old Reno man was arrested Monday on a felony charge of failing to register as a sex offender, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy said. Joseph Bartley was arrested at 8:02 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Carson Street.
The Carson City deputy responded to the area of Fairview Drive and South Carson Street in an attempt to locate a dark-colored Ford pickup that was reckless on the road. The person who called dispatch wanted to sign a citizen's complaint against the driver, the arrest report states.
The officer conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of an auto dealership and contacted Bartley, who stated he lives in Reno and was late for work in South Lake Tahoe, the arrest report states. He said he was driving fast, however, he was not making obscene gestures and cutting off vehicles on the road. He could not provide the officer with current proof of registration.
The witness stated the man was speeding, tailgating, cutting off vehicles and flipping people off while southbound on I-580, the arrest report states. Officers checked with dispatch and learned Bartley was a sex offender Tier 1 that had failed to register in Reno, the arrest report states.
The officer called and confirmed the information with the sex offender registry unit with the Department of Public Safety and was. During an inventory of the vehicle officers found an ounce or less of marijuana and a marijuana pipe.
He faces a felony charge of failing to register as a sex offender, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, careless driving and no current proof of insurance. Bail: $7,853.
In other arrests: A 21-year-old Schurz man was arrested Monday, 12:46 p.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Asphalt Drive on a failure to appear warrant issued May 19, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $215.
— A 41-year-old Carson CIty man was arrested Monday, 4:49 p.m. in the 900 block of North Roop Street on misdemeanor charges of driving on a revoked or suspended license for DUI and driving on a suspended registration. Bail: $1,244.
— A 28-year-old Stagecoach man was booked Monday into Carson City Jail on two misdemeanor contempt of court warrants issued August 22, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $930.
— A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 10:23 p.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East on misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant for failure to appear in Dayton Justice Court on a traffic citation. Bail: $1,768.
— A Carson City man was arrested May 30, 10:26 a.m. in the 200 block of Pine Lane on two warrants for failure to appear in traffic court. One was issued out of Carson City Justice Court on May 19, 2014 and the other from Tahoe Justice Court, March 31, 2014. Bail: $1,726.
— A 57-year-old Carson City man was arrested May 30, 1:20 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on a warrant for violation of a suspended sentence. Bail $1,000.
Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
