Lyon County Utilities Department asks everyone to stop flushing 'flushable' wipes, announces shut-offs suspended
The Lyon County Utilities Department (LCUD) understands this is a stressful time for our community and the households we serve. Please know that we are taking all steps necessary to maintain safe, reliable water and sewer service.
Below are some facts from the American Water Works Association:
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends that people continue to use and drink tap water as usual.
- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that conventional water treatment methods should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.
- The World Health Organization states that the presence of the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies.
We all need to keep our focus on the safety of our family and community and to limit the stress from additional problems. To avoid personal plumbing issues, please remember that your toilet should not be used as a trash can. Protect your plumbing and prevent sewage backups by not flushing paper towels, napkins, feminine products, tissues, baby wipes, or “flushable” wipes.
Given the importance of hygiene and sanitation to prevent the spread of COVID-19, LCUD is temporarily suspending service shutoffs in the event of a non-payment. Please work closely with our utility office if you are unable to pay.
LCUD is prepared to provide reliable water and sewer service throughout the duration of this pandemic. We have a plan in place to maintain service around the clock to help keep families healthy, clean, and hydrated.
