Carson City jail inmates booked following fight over bunk
Two inmates at Carson City Jail were booked Wednesday for suspicion of battery by a prisoner, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report.
Ralph Gordon Darting, 37, and George Franz Petko, 41, were booked following a fight at the jail. Both men were read their Miranda warning. Darting declined to speak about the incident. The jail deputy observed red marks on his face and chest consistent with a physical altercation, according to the report.
Petko agreed to speak, stating Darting was moved into his cell. He said Darting told him that he has back issues and wanted the bottom bunk. Petko said he would let Darting have the bunk in the morning, at which time, he said, Darting then punched him. Petko said he didn't want to fight but had no choice and had to defend himself. The deputy observed Petko's eye was red and swollen and he had red marks on his neck and chest.
Both were booked for battery by a prisoner. Bail: $20,000 each.
In other arrests:
— A 71-year-old Carson City woman, Marlene Hill, was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the booking report, deputies responded to the parking area of 20 College Parkway, Q building. On arrival the victim said he was standing next to his vehicle near a parking space. He said Hill drove her Jeep up to the location to park in that space, which she claimed is assigned to her daughter who lives in the apartment.
Hill and the man began arguing over the parking space. He said Hill then backed the Jeep and as he began to walk away, and then she accelerated rapidly toward him, narrowly missing him. The victim felt the woman's actions were intentional, the report states.
Deputies interviewed the woman who said she did drive at him, only in an effort to scare him. Upon reviewing video surveillance, the arresting deputy said it clearly shows Hill accelerating the Jeep toward the victim, narrowly missing him. The woman was taken into custody. Bail: $20,000.
— A Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of violation of pretrial supervision and a violation of bail conditions warrant. According to the booking report, the man admitted to drinking alcohol and voluntarily submitted to a preliminary breath test with a .336 result. A records check showed the man was under Department of Alternative Sentencing with a no-alcohol condition. He also had a warrant for his arrest. Bail: $6,000 cash.
— A 32-year-old Carson City Jail inmate, Robert Castro-Borjas, was booked for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance (suspected cocaine) and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
During a cell check, a K9 alerted positive to a cell. A deputy located a white powdery substance on the floor under the bottom shelf of the cell. A search of the cell was done, where a library book was found to have more suspected cocaine between pages 148 and 149, the report states. Also located was rolled, ripped pages from the library book that had the suspected cocaine in the paper. Bail: $3,637.
