Over 10 percent of those in Quad Counties have taken COVID-19 vaccine, surpasses statewide average
In the Quad Counties that make up Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties, 18,400 individuals have thus far completed their COVID-19 vaccinations, having received both first and second doses, which is equivalent to 10.9 percent of the overall population, statistics show.
Also noteworthy, 32,147 Quad County residents have begun the process of receiving their first dose, which is 19.06 percent of the overall population. This surpasses the statewide averages of 8.96 percent having completed the vaccination process.
Statewide, 801,215 total doses have been reported as administered. 282,026 vaccinations have been completed. 8.96 percent of the total Nevada population has been vaccinated, though 16.49 percent of the population has initiated a vaccine.
In the Quad Counties as a whole, 10.9 percent of the population has been completely vaccinated while 19.06 percent have started the process. 50,647 total doses have been administered in the Quad Counties.
While Nevada Health Response, the state’s COVID-19 information dashboard, is reporting that Carson City is leading the state in vaccinations, with 27.17 percent having completed the process, Carson City Health and Human Services Public Information Officer Jessica Rapp says these numbers are not accurate, due to a mix-up on the state’s reporting.
The mistake comes from the uniqueness of the quad counties, in that a resident of Storey County, Lyon County or Douglas County can be vaccinated through Carson City Health and Human Services, and the state is categorizing those as Carson City vaccinations, rather than the county of origin of the resident.
By comparison in the cities, 10.72 percent of Washoe County has been vaccinated with 51,392 total vaccinations reported as completed, and 17.62 percent of the population has initiated vaccination. In Clark County, 8.49 percent of the population has been vaccinated with 196,709 total vaccinations reported as completed, and 16.24 percent of the population has initiated the vaccination.
Mineral County is in first place of total population vaccination, with 22.47 percent reported as being completely vaccinated, and 28.90 percent having initiated. 1,025 vaccinations have been reported in the county as completed.
Nationwide, Nevada remains low when it comes to vaccine allocation numbers. In an article written by the Las Vegas Review Journal, officials blamed the federal government for "shortchanging" Nevada by using an outdated population system that did not reflect the actual number of adults living in the silver state.
In a statewide survey, 73 percent of Nevadans asked stated they would get the vaccine when it became available.
