The Carson City youth CPAC girl’s soccer program has an opportunity to compete in an international tournament in Canada during the FIFA Women’s World Cup, June 6 through July 5 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In an effort to raise money for the girls to attend, CPAC coach, program founder Ian Hill will attempt to break the world record for speaking the longest amount of time without stopping as a fundraiser for the trip.
“I want to prove to these kids that all things are possible,” he said. He plans to speak for 48 continuous hours March 12-14 at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St. The motivational speaker is asking for pledges for each hour he speaks.
“The funny thing is, no one has said they don’t think I can do this,” he said. “Everyone says, ‘Oh, 48 hours, that sounds about right. If anybody can do it, you can.’”

He is compiling the talks he gives — ranging from employee productivity and organizational effectiveness to inspiring individuals to become catalysts of social change — and inviting the public to attend.
He is encouraging companies and individuals to review his list of topics and attend the portion that is interesting or relevant to them.
“It’s the same training I do all around the world,” Hill said. “People usually pay thousands of dollars for it. But I wanted to do something that might also be beneficial to the community.”
Hill started the program at Park Terrace next to Empire Elementary School with his wife Gina Lopez Hill, who grew up in the neighborhood, which is predominantly Latino. However, the organization is open to all girls 6-18 and draws participants from across town.
While the girls learn the fundamentals of the game and play in weekly competitions, Hill said, the purpose of the league goes beyond that.
“What we’re really doing is building leaders,” Hill said. “We focus on striving for excellence in all that we do and let winning and losing take care of itself. We measure our success as each athlete grows as a leader in her home, her school, and in her community, as well as having success on the field of play.”
In order to take about 80 girls to the Presidents Invitational Cup in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada, — just outside of Edmonton — in June, Hill said they will have to raise between $80,000 to $90,000.
Darin Burgeois brought his daughter to CPAC after finding disappointment in other programs, where certain players received the bulk of time and and attention while others were sidelined.
He said his daughter has transformed under Hill’s program, where teamwork and love are stressed above all.
“Ian's coaching philosophy is unlike any other that I've seen. His concept of love, at first, seemed way out there to me,” Burgeois said. “But, as the season wore on, his values of love, equality, effort and sacrifice, not for oneself, but for the team resonated with the not only the kids but with their parents as well. So much so that of the nine families that were on that team, seven are still heavily involved three seasons later.”
Hill said his driving force behind fundraising to take the team to Canada is to show the girls — many of whom come from low socioeconomic homes — that they can accomplish their dreams through determination.
“I’m going to give everything I can,” he said. “I hope it’s role modeling for the kids. Whatever you’ve got, give it to the max.”
Soccer player Brigette Quintero, 12, a sixth-grader at Eagle Valley Middle School, has faith that Hill will be successful at breaking the record.
“I firmly believe he can,” she said. “He is so motivational. I feel like he can accomplish anything.”
