Carson City arrests: Man booked for suspicion of child abuse
A 28-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony child abuse, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report.
Abel Jesus Machuca was taken into custody at 9:46 a.m. following an investigation into matters of suspected child abuse of a toddler.
According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a Fairmont Avenue residence for a welfare check on a child. A reporting party advised when they were at the residence the day prior they noticed a toddler had a bruise on his face.
A deputy arrived at the location and spoke with Abel Machuca, who invited the deputy into the home. According to the report, the man stated he knew the reason why the the deputy was at the home. The deputy asked why he thought they were there. The man stated he lost control earlier. The officer asked the man what happened, the report states.
The man stated he lost control when he punished his son. He stated that on Feb. 26, at around 5 p.m. he was at the a business on Topsy Lane. He said his son, who he identified, got onto and started a pocket bike. Machuca stated he hit his son in the face with his right hand for doing so, the report states.
While the deputy was speaking with the man, the officer observed bruising on the left side of the child. The bruising was across most of his face and appeared consistent with being struck by a hand.
Additionally, the deputy noted in the report that the man's 4-year-old daughter made gestures of being struck toward her own face as they were interviewing the man, the report states.
The man was read his Miranda rights. He stated he struck his son to discipline him, however he hit him with too much strength. The deputy asked the man how he usually disciplined his children. The man stated he usually spanked them. He stated this was the first time he struck one of his children hard, the report states.
He stated he regretting hitting the child. The officer asked the man if he sought medical treatment for the child. The man stated he did not because he was scared of getting into trouble for hitting the child, the report states.
The man filled out a statement and the investigating deputy took photos of the child's face and of the home.
Deputies then contacted the Department of Child and Family Services, asking them to respond, where they took temporary custody of both children. The man was arrested and booked for suspicion of child abuse.
The child was taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital and evaluated for internal and external injuries. A doctor later advised the child did not have any internal injuries. The external injuries were the bruising on the face and scratch on the boy's left arm, the report states. Bail: $40,000.

— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of gross misdemeanor false imprison, misdemeanor domestic battery and a felony parole and probation violation hold.
Joseph Essling-Marcuson was taken into custody at 2:02 p.m. following a domestic battery investigation. No bail hold for the parole and probation violation.
— A 30-year-old Reno man, Nathaniel Pahe, was arrested Tuesday for felony violation of conditions through the department of parole and probation. No bail hold.
— A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested Feb. 28 for a misdemeanor warrant, violation of pre-trial supervision. The warrant was issued Feb. 22. Bail: $3,000 cash.
