Carson City's new restaurant Vino's Pizza adds homemade touch to gourmet pizza
Carson City's Brugo’s Pizza Company and Bistro changed ownership recently and is now Vino’s Pizza, transitioning to completely homemade, organic ingredients and a mountain of new menu items.
The new owner, Vino Singh, has applied many new ideas for his restaurant and has hopes of even creating a franchise in the future.
“When I found out it was for sale I jumped at the opportunity," said Singh.
Singh and his team, which includes Head Chef Mickey Woomer, focuses on high quality meats and veggies, and using homemade recipes for toppings and dressings all the while preparing each dish from scratch.
“All of the vegetables we use are organic,” said Singh. “High-end ingredients cost me more up front but the customer’s reviews are well worth it.”
Chef Woomer carried over from Brugo’s and has enjoyed the opportunity to give his input while reworking some of the offerings during the transition.
“You can taste the love in everything we make, that’s the truth,” he said.
“Nothing comes out of a jar here,” he added, while listing all of the homemade items on the upgraded menu.
The meatballs are a specialty and customer favorite, and those with dietary restrictions or simply on a diet can enjoy homemade dressings on each salad they offer. The pesto, dough, sauces and dressings are specially prepared each morning.
“When Vino took over he took the suggestions I made and ran with them,” said Chef Woomer.
They have many choices when it comes to pizza and one of the customer favorites, known as The Braveheart, certainly has an appropriate monicker. It has a white sauce base with their homemade oven roasted garlic chicken and sausage with drizzled BBQ sauce finished with crumpled Dorito’s potato chips.
“It’s my favorite pie. It’s delicious,” the chef said.
The large menu has something for everyone in addition to pizza they offer ciabatta sandwiches, ensaladas, calzones, appetizers like chicken wings and garlic twists and desserts.
Vino’s will prepare each item to their customer’s preference, and that includes offering gluten free, vegetarian or cheese-free alternatives to nearly everything on the menu.
“We are always learning more about our customers needs like gluten allergies, and lactose intolerance,” the chef said. “We even have gluten-free beer on tap,” added Singh.
A large selection of wines are available as well as a varied selection beer on tap. Vino’s offers 50 percent off all wines on Wednesday Wine Night and Sunday through Tuesday they offer Vino’s Amber Ale craft beer drafts for $3. Medical professionals, law enforcement and state employees get a 10 percent discount.
“We’re getting it started here in Carson City,” Singh said. “It’s a nice, small community and word of mouth travels fast and is so valuable.”
“We encourage everyone in the community to come in and try our pizza,” chef Woomer said. “We guarantee they will love it by the first bite.”
