With icy road conditions during Tuesday night commute NHP advises to 'slow down, drive safe, be safe'
UPDATE: As snow continues to fall around the Carson City region, motorists are advised to take it slow during the Tuesday evening commute.
Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division Trooper Charles Caster advises motorists to be aware of not only icy roads but significant temperature drops in the coming hours.
"With the current weather and road conditions, we expect icy roads tonight. We are encouraging drivers to leave early, slow down and leave plenty of space between the vehicle in front of them," said Trooper Caster. "Slow down, drive safe, be safe."
Earlier Tuesday, Carson City Fire and Rescue responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 50 West near Golf Club Drive. The driver was not injured but the incident caused problems in the roadway.
And this afternoon, Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol division were called Tuesday afternoon to a crash involving five vehicles in the southbound lane of I-580 near Eastlake Boulevard.
No injuries were reported and the damage to vehicles was minor however the incident is causing traffic issues in the southbound lane, according to first responders on scene. The crash was reported at around 2:30 p.m. Lakeview Hill is especially icy. Motorists are urged to take it slow. Sand trucks have been called to the area.
Scattered snow showers are continuing Tuesday afternoon with localized heavier snowfall rates possible in some areas. The snowy roads will likely make it difficult for motorists during the evening commute.
As a cold air mass moves in, light and powdery snow could be prone to blowing and drifting with reductions in visibility possible. The cold temperatures could also keep area roads and walkways snow covered and icy. Check NVroads.com for the latest road conditions.
