Carson City Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit gets donation from local business owner
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office recently got a boost from a local business owner. Carson City Country Financial agent Jim Gray donated $1,500 to the law enforcement agency’s K9 unit. The money funded the purchase a new dog bite suit used in training.
“The officers of the K9 dogs sacrifice much of their personal time caring for the dogs as part of their family when they are off duty, Gray said. “It is a huge commitment. I think this is money well spent to help support these officers, their dogs and the mission of keeping our community safe.”
Country Financial created the Operation Helping Heroes Program in 2015 to support non-profit organizations that help active-duty service members, veterans and their families. In 2019, the company expanded the program to include first responder and military organizations. Local agents choose where the donations go in their communities.
“Operation Helping Heroes funds can go to teachers, police, fire, or military causes.” Gray explains. “Last year I used the money to help teachers purchase supplies, this year I wanted to help our law enforcement community. A member of the K9 unit suggested a new bite suit.”
We are very appreciative of the donation from Jim and Country Financial,” said Sergeant Darin Riggin of the K9 unit. “The bite suits help in training the dogs, but they break down over time and require routine replacement. The addition of this new suit will ensure both our dogs and the decoys used in training are protected.”
Since the project’s inception in 2015, COUNTRY Financial has donated millions of dollars to worthy agencies across the country. For more information on Operation Helping Heroes visit www.countryfinancial.com.
