Excitement in the air as new businesses open in Carson City
There’s a lot of excitement in the air as a new generation of entrepreneurs have taken the plunge to bring new or expand their businesses into our city thus creating more opportunities for residents to find goods and services.
In less than one week, three businesses have held grand openings/ribbon cuttings, and there will be more forthcoming soon.
The encouraging thing about these three businesses is they are owned or co-owned by young women.
Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, once on North Carson Street has new progressive ownership and moved to a more convenient location on Highway 50 in the Plaza 50 Shopping Center. Their official grand opening was held on Friday, February 4th. So enthusiastic about this new, improved store and location, shoppers packed the store the opening weekend to much praise from the public. This all new store is bright and full of all sorts of great items and fresh fruits and veggies. And, of course the wine selection for which the chain is known. The new owners are the father/daughter team of Bobbie Johnson and Mike Bleuette. Bobbie is the mother of two young children and excited about this new joint venture.
On February 9, Stylist and entrepreneur Jen Millim introduced her staff of six and sparkling new salon to supporters and new clients. Salon Affinity has an incredible crew of professional and experienced stylists that can bring out the very best in each client. Conveniently located at 1501 E. 5th Street ((775-430-0358), the salon services include hair styling, nails, eyelash extensions and so much more. Jen is the mother of three young boys with another on the way and is relying on long-time stylist Tracy Caraway to help her run this new venture.
Plato’s Closet opened to grand fanfare on February 10 with a line already formed outside to be the first to enter the store at 10 a.m. Shoppers knew what to expect and within minutes of opening were already lining up to pay for their purchases. Located in the Carson Mall (outside entrance on Carson Street), this new retail offering is owned by Elaine Barkdull Spencer who, after years of working for others has ventured out into the world of retail to buy and sell gently used clothing of which designer pursers seemed to be the hot item on the first day.
The Carson City Chamber has the pleasure to arrange the grand opening events where, when her schedule allows, Mayor Lori Bagwell and city supervisors attend. Our Assemblyman PK O’Neill honors the new businesses as well when his schedule allows.
We welcome these new and exciting businesses as Carson City continues on the move and urge locals to shop these new businesses and to shop all local businesses to keep our community strong and attract even more new businesses.
