Carson City area weather: Storms to bring valley rain, Sierra snow to region through holiday weekend

SILVER CITY, Nev. — Sophie Scott of New Zealand is the visiting artist at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City this Autumn. Her latest artwork will be showcased in an exhibition on the 4th Floor Gallery of nearby St. Mary’s Art Center, 55 North R Street, Virginia City, from Oct. 14 through Oct. 21. The public is invited to the catered opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m.

With its new studio and offices now secured at the historic Adams House on Minnesota Street, Carson City Community Radio KNVC 95.1 may be ready for live broadcasts from the capital city sometime in November or December of this year, station management said Monday.

On Friday, October 6th, the Sierra Lutheran Cross Country team traveled to Winnemucca for a meet. The race covered 3.1 miles and was run on the Winnemucca Golf Course.

The presentation of “W is for Wungnema” was held Saturday, October 7th, at the Stewart Community Baptist Church in Carson City and was a huge success. There were approximately 125–150 guests in attendance and a good time was had by all who attended.

A 45 year-old transient man and 31 year-old Mound House woman were arrested Friday evening at 6:23 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Carson Street for felony suspicion of drug trafficking and possession of methamphetamine offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

UPDATE 10:07PM: Detectives with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office along with investigators and specialists from the DPS Investigations Division and the Forensic Investigation Section continue to actively pursue the cause and circumstances of the three deaths discovered in Silver Springs on Saturday night.
According to Sheriff Al McNeil, based on the investigation so far detectives are confident there is no threat to the community.

I was out watering a few days ago and I noticed yellowjacket wasps crawling on the ground. I mentioned to my friend Will that I thought yellowjackets bite rather than sting. He said he didn’t think so, saying not only did they sting, but they could sting repeatedly. Well, he was right, but so was I.
