Kirkwood opens doors to stranded motorists
On Saturday night, Route 88 was closed both east and west of Kirkwood. As a result, people had few places to go.
About 100 cars were temporarily stuck on Route 88, but many of them made their way to Kirkwood Resort.
People had been traveling in both directions. Fortunately, several made it to Kirkwood Resort and were able to find shelter in the Red Cliffs Lodge building and stayed overnight.
Kirkwood provided rides from their parking lot to the red Cliffs Lodge, blankets, and bedsheets, and people, in generally good spirits, shared their experiences and provisions, in addition to the goods and assistance provided by the resort.
The attached pictures are of about 70 people on beanbags, in sleeping bags, and under white sheets sleeping Saturday night, waiting for the snow to lift and to get to their destinations.
Kirkwood put up additional temporary housing at other locations. A grateful Carsonite says, "Thank you, Kirkwood."
