Carson City Sheriff: Teen dies in pedestrian crash involving vehicle on North Carson Street

UPDATE: 8:58PM: A 14-year old Carson City female pedestrian died at the scene of a vehicle crash Sunday night on North Carson Street, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The girl was struck in the 3100 block of North Carson and East Nye Lane at around 5:40 p.m. At arrival, CCSO deputies began administering life-saving medical attention. However, upon the arrival of fire, paramedic units the teen was declared deceased at the scene.
It is unknown at this time if she was struck in the crosswalk but was near the crosswalk, said Furlong.
The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with law enforcement, along with witnesses, and remained at the scene, said Furlong. The accident is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit and the Nevada State Police. Anyone with information regarding the accident should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 775-887-COPS (2677).
The victim is a Carson High School student and her two brothers attend a Carson Elementary School. The Carson City Sheriff’s School Resource Officers are working with the Carson City School District to prepare for counseling service options on Monday when school goes into session, said Furlong.
Although the scene was dark, street light fixtures existed on both sides of the street and crosswalk where the juvenile and her boyfriend were crossing, said Furlong. The victim’s friend was not injured in the accident.
“We are truly saddened to learn of a horrific pedestrian/car accident on North Carson Street involving one of our Carson High School students. Late this evening, we were informed by law enforcement that the student had passed away. Our hearts ache for all the families and individuals involved," said Andrew Feuling, superintendent, Carson City School District. UPDATE: A person has died in a crash reported as a pedestrian vs. vehicle incident Sunday evening on North Carson Street in Carson City, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Sunday evening to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the area of North Carson Street and Nye Lane.
The crash was reported in the 3100 block of North Carson Street at 5:39 p.m. It is under investigation.
Motorists are advised to stay clear of the area. Northbound traffic is closed from College Parkway to Nye Lane.

It is the second fatality in the Carson City, Lyon County area in less than a week involving pedestrians. A juvenile was struck by a motorist and died on US-50 in Mound House on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The two incidents are not related.
