NHP deputy chief John O’Rourke appointed to assistant chief
Nevada Highway Patrol Deputy Chief John O’Rourke will assume the title of of lieutenant colonel and perform duties as NHP's assistant chief, the Nevada Department of Public Safety announced Thursday.
O’Rourke has served with the Department for more than 20 years and joined the Nevada Highway Patrol as a trooper in July 1995. Lieutenant Colonel O’Rourke has been promoted through the ranks working in various assignments with his most recent assignment as the Northern Command Deputy Chief with the Parole and Probation Division.
His appointment was announced by Department of Public Safety Director James M. Wright, Deputy Director Jackie Muth and Colonel Dennis S. Osborn.
O’Rourke has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Multi-Disciplinary Studies from Grantham University and is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command class 265.
A formal promotion ceremony is being planned and we will announce that date as soon as it is confirmed. Lt. Colonel O’Rourke replaces former Nevada Highway Patrol Lt. Col. Brian Sanchez who retired from the Department this last August after serving over 25 years with the agency.
