Intimate Designs Floral cuts ribbon on new Carson City location
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new location of Intimate Designs (ID) Floral Wednesday night, with Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell doing the honors.
The new shop is in the same complex off of East William Street across from Smith's Food and Drug Store, but owner Lori Morris upgraded for some extra space that adds 500 square feet to the business.
Her intention is to use the extra space to sell wholesale flowers as well as arrangements.
The real heart and soul of her shop isn't the flowers themselves, Morris said, but the way they can be used to bring joy to people.
Morris created Angels with Flowers, a service which brings bouquets and arrangements to senior centers, cancer centers, or even funeral arrangements when families cannot afford a full service and flowers.
"Last year we were able to deliver 165 arrangements," said Morris. "We were able to do so many last year because the community donates us vases, so all I need to take is the cost of the flowers themselves."
They've also begun donating Scarves for Seniors, in which Morris and her team deliver donated scarves to the senior homes.
Some people, when learning about the program, have taken the scarves off their own necks and handed them over to Morris while picking up their flower arrangements.
"I always said if I ever had my own flower shop, I would donate as many as I could to those who need them," said Morris.
And since opening in January 2015, she's been able to do just that.
In addition, she also gives space for local artists to see their creations; at this point, there are over thirty artists represented in her shop, from photography to sculpture to vases and more.
"Beautiful flowers make for a beautiful community," added Mayor Bob after the ribbon cutting.
If you are interested in donating vases or scarves for Morris's programs, stop by their shop or reach out to them on facebook here.
Intimate Designs Floral is located at 444 E. William Street. The store is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 .pm. on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
