Carson City Disc Golf Course to open in Spring, volunteers needed for work day
Carson City Parks and Recreation staff met Tuesday with the Eagle Valley Disc Golf Association to identify the remaining work tasks to complete the Disc Golf Course Complex Project, according to Vern Krahn, senior park planner.
“Because the remaining site work is so weather dependent this time of year, no specific date has been identified for the course’s opening,” said Krahn. “But both organizations are committed to a mid to late spring ribbon cutting ceremony and opening.”
A specific opening date should be announced during March. The course is located off of Flint Road in an area before entering the Carson City Rifle Range.
“A rough estimate is that over 80 percent of course construction is done,” sid Gregg Swift of the Eagle Valley Disc Golf Association. “Most of the remaining work is weather dependent, so we are working with the city on determining an opening date.”
A formal opening will be organized and scheduled.
A work day at the course site is planned for January 19, and volunteers are needed to help complete the remaining 20 percent of the course. If there are weather issues on the 19th, the work day will be pushed back to the 26th.
The course will feature 27 holes total: an 18 hole championship course, and a 9 hole short course, for beginners to learn to play, or for veteran players to hone their short game.
