Is your resolution to run more? Try the Centennial Slug it Out 5/10K

Event Date:
January 10, 2015 - 8:30am

The Centennial Slug it Out 5/10K is part of the Winter Trail Series offered by Ascent Runs. Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at Centennial Park, this run will get your blood pumping and your New Year's resolution off to a great start.

You'll want to park north of the baseball fields, past the tennis courts. Look for the blue truck and pop-up tents. It is predominantly a single track trail with some technical rocky sections. This is wild horse country. If you don't run into some wild horses, you will definitely run into some wild horse manure.

This run is part of a series where every run is just $20, $10 for students. Go here to register online. There is a $5 procrastination fee for all race day registrations ($25, $15 for students). Same day registration is cash or card only, sorry no checks.

They appreciate your understanding on that one. Minors who register race day must have a parent or guardian present to sign participant waiver and release of liability, assumption of risk and indemnity agreement. If you do not pre-registered through their site and plan on registering the morning of the run please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to start time so that they can get everyone entered into the timing system and not delay the start of the run. Please allow for enough time to check in so that we can get started on time. All runners must check in prior to race start even if they have pre-registered.

This is the third of five trail runs in the 6th Annual Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series presented by Ascent Runs. These casual runs were created to keep runners and walkers motivated through the winter months and also as a way to supplement your winter training. This series highlights the extensive trail networks surrounding Carson City, NV. There are no aid stations out on the courses so be prepared to carry your own water or sports drink. For the safety of all runners and to keep you guessing, event organizers reserve the right to change course routes and distances based on weather conditions or just for the heck of it. This series is a great trainer for the Escape From Prison Hill Half Marathon and 10K to be held on April 18, 2015.

The extended forecast is looking sunny and mild for the week with a high of 52 for Saturday. There is still some snow on the course but it is melting fast. The 5K course as of now is four miles. There are three things every runner should know about Ascent Runs Winter Trail Series 10K+ courses: if there is snow we will run through it, if there are hills we will run up them, and if weather permits us to run longer we most certainly will! The 10K+ course as of now looks to be around eight miles. Still haven't settled on an exact route yet but come prepared to run/walk/hike around eight miles. Expect to run through anything and everything in this area. There are lots of rocks, a little bit of snow, mud and sand and a whole lot of wild horse manure!
