Former Carson High School principal Glen Adair dies
Former Carson High School principal Glen Edward Adair passed away on Dec. 25, 2013. He was 69. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 in Pittsfield, Mass. Memorial donations may be made to the Carson High School Scholarship Fund, 1111 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, NV 89701.
Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes said Adair was a driven, high energy person who strived to make Carson High School the best it could be.
"Mr. Adair was the kind of guy who knew how to get things done," said Stokes. "He was very proud of Carson High School, proud of his students and staff and instrumental in perpetuating the school to be the best in the state. The legacy has propelled Carson High School's prominence over other schools its size."
Adair served as Carson High principal from August 1992 to June 2004.
He is survived by wife Kathleen Linda Adair; sons, Ryan and Jedd; sister Jean Ann Botana; nieces Lisa Schwartz, Adrienne and Allison Botana, and Kaitlin and Lauren Swan.
Adair was born Jan. 6, 1944 in Santa Monica, Calif. He graduated from Culver City High School, received a B.S. from California State University, Northridge; and an M.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno.
From 1963-1966, Adair served in the US Army Air Corps and assisted in the development of the Harrier Aircraft during the Vietnam War. Later he became an airline pilot for American Airlines, was a college football coach at West Los Angeles and Pierce colleges and served as principal of Owyhee Combined School, Elko High School and Carson High School.
In 2002 he was recognized as "Outstanding K12 School Administrator" by the University of Nevada. After retiring from Carson High School, he served as director of the American School in Durango, Mexico for two years. He and Kathleen spent time in retirement between the Massachusetts Berkshires and Mazatlan, Mexico.
