ESL Honors Students and Tutors
An 11th Year celebration award ceremony was given to honor all ESL tutors, students and new U.S. citizens of the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada. The event was held at the Governor's Mansion. Ethnic Salvadoran food was supplied by La Santaneca Restaurant. Entertainment was supplied by Metzonali Folklore Dancers.
This program, which was started in 2004 with one tutor and six students now has 171 tutors teaching ESL/GED/U.S.Citizenship study to 452 adult immigrants at no cost.
The program focuses on teaching English language skills to parents of ESL school children so that the parents can help their children with homework and other school activities. ESL school teachers commend this program since their classes are running more smoothly with the parents help.
The program is in need of more tutors to decrease it's wait-list of over 200 people in Carson City who are anxious to learn English language skills. For one hour's training in teaching English as a Second Language with flexible days/times/locations, call 775-888-2021
