Opinion: Kimmerling Road: When a Paving Job Went Horribly Wrong
Anyone who travels down Kimmerling Road knows how bad it was. As you got closer to Tilman, it became an obstacle course around the sunken manhole covers. Somehow, the recent paving project made it worse.
For those who yearn for the covered wagon days, you can get the experience just driving home. An odd thing is that going out Kimmerling towards 88 isn’t bad; the ride in the other direction will shake loose anything you don’t have bolted down.
It’s a wonder. The one thing they got right: the lanes are painted well. For the rest of it, unless you like being jolted by a roadway, just grimace and hold on. For us folks who aren’t driving a quad or dirt bike home, it’s a real bummer.
I’m not even sure how it could happen. But it did. Even the manhole covers are worse. Which took doing. There are now countless bumps where none existed before. Maybe the contractor was paid for creating so many of them. Perhaps they got a bonus for every bump added.
Like a labyrinth of low-lying speed bumps, it’s gonna shake some parts loose. Maybe a collection of bolts strewn about from unlucky motorists' cars will smooth things out. Lord knows, the paving company certainly couldn’t.
Perhaps, whoever’s in charge, could make sure that the contractor has to drive this route every day. Maybe there’s a warranty. If so, please return it.
If you’ve got chompers, lay on the Poligrip thick. If the Beverly Hillbilly’s would traverse this wonder of debauchery, they could really say that Granny’s off her rocker. On a positive note, when the County Fair comes to town, we’ve got a free new ride to offer.
I know. We’re nice folks. There's far too many truly serious things happening. I should be kind. Perhaps, I’ll buy them a Participation Trophy.
