Carson City Elks Lodge awards $1,000 Scholastic Scholarships
The Nevada State Elks Association provided 27 scholastic awards to students, throughout our state, toward their college expenses. Other cash awards were given to six Legacy Award winners, two Vocational Award winners and five Nursing Scholarship Award winners. Carson City Elks lodge had 3 scholastic recipients at the NSEA level.
The Carson City Elks lodge #2177 proudly presented a certificate of achievement to Samantha Schofield, along with $1,000 Scholastic scholarship award, for being one of three scholarship recipients from the lodge. She will be attending Brigham Young University in Utah in a pre-nursing program with the hopes of becoming a pediatric oncology nurse.
The other two were Gabrielle Wallace, also a $1,000 Scholastic scholarship winner. She will be attending the honors college at Michigan State University this fall and majoring in Finance with a minor in History. Her end goal is to have a career in the corporate finance world.
Kelly Strasser was a $2,000 Scholastic scholarship winner. She will be attending the University of Oklahoma and will major in Aerospace Engineering. She’s excited about the vast array of possibilities and opportunities in her future field.
Of the 27 students that received scholarships at the NSEA level, 7 of them went on to the National level, in which they will receive $10,000, or more depending on where they place, towards their college expenses.
