Judicial candidate Mark Krueger to speak at Democratic luncheon
The speaker at the August 5th Democratic luncheon will be Mark Krueger, candidate for District Judge in Department Two of the First Judicial District of Nevada.
The district covers Carson City and Storey County. The winner of this race will serve out the last two years of the six-year term of now-retired District Judge James E. Wilson. Incumbent Judge Kristin Luis was appointed by the governor to fill the position in the interim.
Krueger has been a practicing attorney in Nevada for 24 years. In that time he has worked with judges, other attorneys, jurors, witnesses, court clerks, court reporters and bailiffs, as well as therapy dogs for victims while testifying. He began his career in Carson City, clerking for District Court Judges Michael E. Fondi and William Maddox in Carson City and Storey County, as well as Supreme Court Justice A. William Maupin.
He has worked for multiple Attorneys General, including Frankie Sue Del Papa, Brian Sandoval, George Chanos, Adam Laxalt, and current Attorney General Aaron Ford. All recognized Mark for the quality of his work. He has practiced in District Courts throughout Nevada, as well as the Nevada Supreme Court and multiple federal courts. He even argued two cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Over his career, Mark Krueger has prosecuted over 40 criminal jury trials involving a range of offenses from drug crimes to murder cases. This includes crimes against children and elderly adults. He has handled numerous civil cases as well, including cases that resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in recoveries. He recently played a key role in state opioid litigation which recovered over $1.1 billion. These funds will help mitigate the epidemic, save lives, and restore hope to the victims.
Having become known for his legal acumen, Krueger has taught cadets at the Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy, and served as an adjunct professor at Western Nevada College, Truckee Meadows Community College, and the University of Nevada, Reno.
Mark Krueger has received a number of endorsements from AFL-CIO-affiliated labor organizations, including the Northern Nevada Central Labor Council, the Building and Construction Trades Council of Northern Nevada, and the Culinary Workers Union. He has also been endorsed by the Nevada Green Institute.
Mark put this on his website to set the theme for his campaign:
"I want to share a quick story with you. Recently, I finished a presentation and a woman came up to me, she was very emotional, and she said “I want to thank you.” She told me she runs a center that helps people, especially women who have children and women who are pregnant.
She told me the settlements and funding that I have spearheaded are going to help a lot of people, and have helped to change a lot of lives. And she handed me a booklet, and as I turned the pages, I saw all of these faces of different women who she had helped because of the settlement funding.
The settlements she was referring to are ones that I have been working on at the Attorney General’s Office. They are the big opioids settlements which are bringing in over 1.1 billion dollars to the State, because of companies’ deceptive and misleading practices.
The decisions and work I did on that litigation and those settlements, are making a difference for a lot of people – people who are struggling with addiction, their friends, their family, and even our community. It is saving lives and restoring hope. It is tremendous what these programs and services can do.
I believe as a judge I can make those kinds of decisions on a daily basis, helping people navigate some of the most difficult times in their lives.
The other thing I want to highlight about this, is my breadth of experience. The judicial position I am running for deals with any number of different issues, from family law, to criminal law, to business law and business court. I have the experience in all of these areas.
This is really important, because as people from different walks of life, and different needs, come before the court, I am the only candidate that has that breadth and depth of experience to help all of these people, not just some of them."
This event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, August 5th, and can either be attended in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. The presentation will begin after all orders have been taken - around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links should contact Rich Dunn at richdunn@aol.com.
