Carson City Library receives $55K donation from Friends of the Library
Joy Holt, Director of the Carson City library received a $55,000 check this month from Phil Patton, Treasurer of the Friends of the Carson City Library. Friends is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1966. Since that time the Friends of the Carson City Library has donated its substantial support to many library projects and much needed acquisitions.
Funds are used to pay for programs such as the Summer Reading Program and National Library Week activities. Friends’ donations also contribute to the library’s book and e-book collections. To become a member of Friends of the Carson City Library go to www.friendscclibrary.org or come into the bookstore.
The 2024 Summer Reading Challenge — Travel Through Time at the library is in full swing. You can still sign up to record your reading minutes and add to the grand total before the program ends on August 16, 2024. It’s easy to sign up at https://carsoncitylibrary.beanstack.org.
Browsers Corner Book Store is the major fundraising mechanism for Friends of the Carson City Library and the bookstore donates up to 95% of all net proceeds to the library. The bookstore is staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers who gift their time and talents to make Browsers Corner Book Store a welcoming destination for shoppers. It is located at 711 E. Washington Street, directly across from the library entrance.
All of the inventory in the bookstore has been donated by generous community members. Bookshelves are stocked with popular fiction, children’s books, history, self-help, arts and crafts and coffee table books. Media materials and much more can also be purchased in the store for relatively low prices.
In the 10 years Browsers Corner Book Store has been operating, it has been able to donate over $348,000 to support programs and book acquisitions at the Carson City Library.
