Carson Valley's Kids & Horses announces a new mentor program for foster youth through Stable Moments
Kids & Horses, a Minden-based a therapeutic riding facility for children and adults with disabilities, is excited to announce the launching of a trauma informed, one-on-one mentorship program for kids in foster care and those that have been adopted.
Having one-on-one mentorship sessions every week, for an entire school year, not only develops life skills in children who have experienced developmental trauma, it also gives them a sense of purpose and identity.
At Stable Moments foster youth are given a place to belong. With nearly 400,000 youth in the U.S. foster care system, we must do better. Many children with "behavioral problems" really have needs associated with years of trauma. What we experience as disrespectful or inappropriate behavior is a nervous system on high alert. Meeting this behavior with calmness can help regulate a child and give them a sense of safety.
With the Stable Moments mentorship program everyone can play an active role in the life of a child, offering them much needed stability and showing them that someone cares.
At Stable Moments a truly great mentor is curious, patient, empathetic, and playful. Does that sound like you?
Apply to be a mentor today!
Children in foster care deserve someone to count on. Play an active role and help them develop life skills by becoming a mentor today. Just one hour a week can make all the difference.
This program will begin on Saturday, September 7. For more information, see the website here or contact:
