Author to explore ghost railroads of Nevada in Thursday presentation at Railroad Museum
While the map of Nevada is dotted with ghost towns, many of the state’s famous railroads also left their shadows behind. Author Jim Price remembers the long-lost trains that served Tonopah and more in his new book, “Discovering the Ghost Railroads of Central Nevada.” Price comes to the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City, at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 9, for a special presentation on his work.
The book provides a quick reference guide for tracking the Tonopah & Goldfield, Las Vegas & Tonopah, and Bullfrog Goldfield railroads that helped build the Western towns of Tonopah, Goldfield, Beatty, and Rhyolite.
“We have driven and hiked many miles of abandoned railroad grades in that area to gather data for this book. I will discuss the now defunct railroads that serviced these once booming mining towns and provide photos of the types of ruins that exist today,” said Price, who lives part-time in Goldfield.
Admission is $6 for adults and free for members of the Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum. For more information, contact the museum at (775) 687-6953.
