Nevadans: Spirit of the Silver State
The Douglas County Historical Society's May 12, lecture "Nevadans: Spirit of the Silver State" at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Gardnerville, will feature well known Nevada Author Stan Paher.
Stan's "Nevada: Spirit of the Silver State" is a powerpoint presentation that begins before Nevada became the Utah territory. Learn how early trappers, explorers and emigrants set the framework for modern Nevada. Early trading posts, like Mormon Station, became the backbone for later territorial settlements that still later morphed into some of our existing towns and cities.
He follows the mining boom on the Comstock and its expansion over northern Nevada for the next three decades. Ranching, farming and homesteading round out the scene. The 20th century Nevada mining boom began in Tonopah in 1900 but quickly spread to Goldfield and many other places like Fairview and Wonder. Stan covers early Reno and a little on Southern Nevada. He finally shows images of some very rare Nevada collectibles and how we Nevadans like to celebrate and enjoy our rural areas.
Involved in the business of Nevada history for more than forty years, Stan is also a noted author and publisher of many books about Nevada and Nevadans. His breadth and depth of knowledge about our state is reflected in his lectures. The visual images that accompany his presentation are striking and truly take the audience back in time.
