Music of the Andes Concert and Introduction to the Zampona Flute comes to Silver City April 12
If you missed this week’s concert and introduction to the Andean pan flute (zampoña), do not despair. There will be another concert and introduction Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 4:30pm at the Silver City Schoolhouse.
Kantu Inka's Tuesday, April 12th performance of Andean music, along with an introduction to the zampoña and other traditional Andean musical instruments, is free and open to everyone, all ages. Come one, come all!
Afterward, anyone 55+ who would like to register for free zampoña lessons is welcome to do so.
Older adults have the opportunity to sign up for a free workshop series to learn to play the Andean pan pipes this April and May. Nevada Arts Council Teaching Artists Carlos Ocampo and Julie Lozada Ocampo of Kantu Inka will share the opportunity for adults 55+ to learn a new lifetime art: playing the zampoña (Andean pan flute).
The 8-week free program for older adults takes place on the Comstock at the Silver City Schoolhouse at 385 High Street, Silver City, Nevada 89428.
Participants will receive their own zampoña musical instrument to keep, and will explore Andean music and learn the art of playing the pan pipes in this in-person series of classes which will run every Tuesday afternoon through May 24.
The workshop series will conclude with a concert in the Silver City Park with Kantu Inka where workshop participants will play their new instruments for family and friends they invite. This series is supported by the Nevada Arts Council’s Creative Aging Program Grant and the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties.
