Transgender Woman, Sherrie Scaffidi Announces Her Candidacy for State Assembly District 40
Sherrie Paulie Scaffidi is running for the Nevada Assembly Seat in District 40. Sherrie is a US Navy Seabee, veteran. She is a widower who lost her wife of 42 years to cancer in 2012. Sherrie is the father of three grown children. She lived in Carson City from 1991 to 2005 and happily moved back in 2018.
Sherrie is the current president of PFLAG Carson Region, a board member of Transgender Allies group, and a Nevada Veterans Advocate. She has been a non-paid lobbyist for LGBTQ and women’s rights in Nevada for the past two legislative sessions. Sherrie spends much of her time educating people on transgender issues and moderates several groups that support LGBTQ individuals.
Sherrie says "Healthcare for all, including better care for our veterans, the LGBTQ community, and older individuals, should be affordable and easily accessible. Our teachers deserve better pay and more respect. People who are making the current minimum wage cannot afford to pay for housing, food and medication. Raising the minimum wage to a living wage is paramount to promoting a healthy citizenry. DACA individuals should not be deported and they should have a clear and easy way to full citizenship.”
As a gun owner and a licensed carry-permit holder, she says "I believe in limited gun rights, and discussing these issues in a calm and quiet manner to enact legislation that is enforceable to lower the violence caused by those individuals with firearms.”
She believes in equal rights for women, immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, and all marginalized people.
As a nation of immigrants, we need comprehensive immigration reform, making it easier for those individuals seeking asylum and wanting a better life to be able to become citizens.
