Democrat Aaron Sims files candidacy for State Senate District 16
Today, Democratic candidate Aaron Sims officially filed to run for state senate, district 16 in this year’s election. He filed this morning at 10:00AM at the Nevada Secretary of State’s office in Carson City.
Sims, a Carson City resident for 12 years, has had a diverse history in politics and community activism. Beginning his involvement as a youth, he has worked on various campaigns from president down to city supervisor, interned for a governor, worked as a lobbyist and vice chair of a major political party locally. In recent years, Mr. Sims has worked to improve the lives of homeless folks in our region and pushing for reforms regarding the housing crisis which has been getting worse each year. A former candidate for Carson City mayor in 2020, Sims is looking forward to bringing both his experience and a new vision for Nevada in the state senate.
As a senator, Mr. Sims plans to champion Housing First, education reform and healthcare for Nevada as his top 3 policy issues. He is also a supporter of renewable energy alternatives including nuclear power, criminal justice reform, equal rights and LGBTQ rights, and prioritizing mental health in the state.
Joined by his partner Spencer, Mr. Sims stated that; “It is our responsibility to take a stand and fight for working people, fight for those who feel voiceless and make changes which will steer our communities in the right direction. This is why I am in this fight”.
Sims plans to campaign across Nevada's 16th district which includes Carson City, Wahoe Valley, South Reno, Storey County, Incline Village and Verdi.
