Deer Run Wild Horse Preservation Group at the Nevada Legislature
A local citizen's group called the Deer Run Wild Horse Preservation Group urged locals to come out and support the return of a local beloved herd of wild horses. About 50 Carson City residents came together outside the Nevada Legislature today for a rally to raise awareness in the community for what has happened to the horses.
Coordinator Annie Jantzen says, "Even the Humane Society in Washington, DC is calling for the BLM to put these horses back on the range where they belong, and work with the community on solutions."
The Humane Society of the United States issued a press release on Monday denouncing the BLM for failing to work with the community, who has offered many alternatives and most that they would fund themselves including fencing and birth control. "It's never too late to do the right thing, and that's what we are calling on the BLM to do now." Jantzen says that the group has the support of city officials as well as Senator Mark Manendo, who stood with the group today.
