Senators ride the senior ship, cruise to 66-41 victory over Wooster
Senior night was the highlight of the night on Tom Andreasen court as the Carson High Senators prepared for battle against the Wooster Colts at home in Carson City on Tuesday night.
Carson High School was in complete control the whole game, as they dominated both sides of the ball, forcing Wooster to throw tough, contested shots each time down.
This generated many fast break opportunities for Tez Allen, as he kept his eyes down court, looking for easy passes to his teammates.
Carson held a 28 point lead heading into halftime, with the score at 38-10. Guards Myster Smith and Ben Ginn tried to start a comeback for the Colts with many acrobatic shots, but the Senators kept a firm grip on the lead thanks to a complete team effort.
Although Jayden DeJoseph and Tez Allen combined for 37 points (21 for Allen, 16 for DeJoseph), it was the contributions made by the seniors on their commemorative night.
The senior trio of Brandon Gagnon, Geraet Rauh, and Taylor Saarem played solid basketball, keeping turnovers at a minimum, and setting an example for upcoming juniors who look to take the next step in their progression.
Substitutions were put in place in the 4th quarter, as the Senators dominated the colts 66-41, keeping their spirits high heading into playoffs.
After the game senior Taylor Saarem reflected on this special night.
"It's pretty exciting to win, we knew Wooster had nothing to lose, so we knew we had to stay focused if we wanted to win," he said. "We still wanted to go out there and perform for all of the seniors on the team, me included."
Saarem also elaborated on the preparations needed to make a deep postseason run.
"It's just the little things, we have improved on defense. But we need to improve on the little things on defense like rotations that can help us focus on the bigger picture. So working on those things in practice with a good focus and mindstate is going to help."
The Senators will look to hang another banner with a deep playoff journey.
