The Nevada Department of Agriculture is warning against the human use of ivermectin animal products. Veterinary formulations of ivermectin can vary greatly and have not been proven safe or effective in humans.

The renaming of six open space properties was accepted unanimously by the Carson City Board of Supervisors during its Thursday meeting.

The properties were previously unnamed, and the process began in 2018, after the Open Space Advisory Council discussed the naming of open space acquisitions located in the Kings Canyon area.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Thursday morning to a possible structure fire at the Carson City Library, 900 North Roop Street.

The fire was called in at around 10:15 a.m. and was reportedly in the second story. The building has been evacuated.

CARSON CITY — Nevada residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Nevada Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 25 with a “fee-free” day at Nevada’s State Parks. Park fees, including entrance, camping (Saturday night) and boating, where applicable, will be waived at state parks throughout Nevada.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Pahrump man who died in a single vehicle rollover Wednesday, Sept. 8 on USA Parkway SR-439 in Silver Springs.

Thousands of rubber ducks will take a float down the Truckee River this Saturday as the Nevada Humane Society hosts its annual Duck Race Festival at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno.

The family-friendly festival, which runs from 4 to 9 p.m., promises to deliver a fun and free way to support pet adoptions run through the agency, which has branches in Carson City and Reno, as well as a way to meet some of its adoptable shelter pets.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is encouraging children ages 11 to 13 to showcase their talent in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.

The 2021-2022 contest theme is “We Are All Connected,” and is designed to be a creative way for children to express their visions of peace. The contest winner at the local level will receive a $50 stipend and will move up to the District level for further competition where first place wins $125.

Two men were arrested late Monday after having fled from a traffic stop in Douglas County, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Recently, the Carson City Sheriff’s Search and Rescue was honored with a $5,000 donation from the Southwest Gas Foundation in recognition of the commendable resource the 23-crew member volunteer unit is to the community.

Carson City Fire Department responded Tuesday night to a fire at the Carson City landfill off of Flint Drive across from Highway 50 East. It is the second fire at the city dump in a week.

UPDATE: Grand Canyon University advised Tuesday that a second Carson City woman, Chandler Blue, is featured on a new 10-song album. Blue is a 2017 graduate of Carson High School. In 2015 she auditioned for the TV talent show "American Idol."

The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, Sept. 16 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Caltrans has reopened State Route 89 between Meyers and Hope Valley, Pickett's Junction, but US50 and SR88 remain closed. Crews are working to make US50 between Kyburz and South Lake Tahoe safer for the public to travel by cutting down trees and clearing burned debris.

CARSON CITY — GreenUP! and Western Nevada College partnered to offer a free workshop for auto repair and auto body shops in Nevada on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021 at Western Nevada College in the E.L. Cord Automotive Technology Center. The workshop is made possible with funding provided from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Squaw Valley ski resort officials announced Monday they are changing the name of the world-renowned resort near Truckee to 'Palisades Tahoe' after a year-long process. Officials changed the name to remove the word 'squaw,' which is considered offensive as an ethnic and sexual slur for Indigenous North American women.
