Happy New Year! From the 50th Reunion Carson High Class of 1971.

We all have class reunions, and my 50th was this year. When you are younger, it is more of a competition rally of who is who and what you have accomplished. For some this can leave a bad taste, and many may not return to their next one.

In honor of Betty White, known for her animal activism and advocacy, Catmandu, a no-kill, cage-free cat rescue and sanctuary in Carson City is holding a Giving Grid fundraising drive in her name.

Continuing the Carson City Chamber tradition of presenting the venue for the annual State of the City Address, Mayor Lori Bagwell will provide insight into the state of this city following her first year in office. The first Chamber State of the City address was presented in 2010 after Mayor Robert Crowell’s first year in office.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Investigations Division is asking for the public's help identifying a man sought for questioning in a battery with a deadly weapon and road rage incident where the victim was stabbed in the hand and punched.

Damaging winds blew down trees, caused power outages and closed the main artery between Carson City and Reno overnight, after the first winter storm of 2022 moved into the region, further causing headaches for motorists, long wait lines on alternative roadways and the loss of electricity due to downed or damaged power lines.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office made 14 arrests over the New Year’s Weekend, December 31, 2021 through January 2, 2022. Additionally, the Sherriff reported the County experienced another year with fewer calls for service as compared to previous years.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting the first case of Omicron Variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region of Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, and Storey County.

Nevada Day announces as of January 1, 2022, Brooke Santina will take over as the Executive Director for the non-profit. The former director, Ken Hamilton, informed the Nevada Day Board in December he would not be returning after holding the position for over a decade. The Board thanks Ken for his many years of service to Nevada Day and wishes him the best in his new endeavors.

The Nevada State Treasurer's Office will offer events in January designed to assist those looking for information regarding services as well as help individuals and families navigate various college savings plans available.

At the start of the pandemic, there was much uncertainty in our community. We witnessed local businesses layoff their staff and shut their doors for an unknown amount of time. We saw our local service industries modify their way of doing business to accommodate community health guidelines. We observed much insecurity in our community due to the pandemic. Our agency wanted to create a spark of optimism while contributing to local businesses and our local economy.

The Board of County Commissioners start the new year with a full agenda on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022. The board is slated to elect a chairman and vice-chairman at 9 a.m. Commissioner Vida Keller currently serves as Chair with Commissioner Ken Gray as Vice-Chair.

After the strong December storms, the snow survey conducted Thursday near Sierra-at-Tahoe measured 78.5 inches of snow depth and a snow water equivalent of 20 inches, which is 202 percent of average for this date.

The Department of Water Resources (DWR) today conducted the first snow survey of the season at Phillips Station, west of South Lake Tahoe.

It's time to say goodbye to 2021, Carson City, but not before we take a look back. We may have had a difficult year filled with COVID-19, oftentimes confusing mandates, a wild pack of dogs that roamed the streets only to be caught and quickly replaced by several bears digging through garbage and destroying fruit trees because of the drought. Did you know there were hundreds of earthquakes in the region during the summertime? Or that the three wildfires that darkened our skies for months burned over a million acres?

Carson City Health and Human Services is providing the Quad County community with a weekly update for the week starting Dec. 23 and ending Dec. 29, 2021.

Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter will host a game watch at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022 at Jimmy G's in Carson City. The Las Vegas Raiders will take on the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.
