Nevada Division of Forestry prescribed fires to begin along Carson City's Clear Creek drainage
Nevada Division of Forestry will be conducting pile burning prescribed fire operations in the Clear Creek drainage of Carson City beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, conditions and weather permitting.
Operations will continue over the winter season to reduce hazardous fuels and reduce the risk and impact of future wildfires. Smoke may be visible from Highway 50.
Winter is the ideal time to burn piles when wet and snowy conditions allow land managers to achieve multiple prescribed fire objectives, reduced wildfire smoke emissions, reduced wildfire risk, and improved forest health and resiliency.
All prescribed fires require an authorized burn plan that requires specific weather and fuel conditions and staffing levels before any burning occurs. Prescribed fire smoke may last for several days but is shorter in duration and less intense than wildfire smoke.
Nevada Division of Forestry partners with Nevada Division of Environmental Protection to ensure minimal smoke impacts to adjacent communities.
