Nevada Day names Brooke Santina as executive director
Nevada Day announces as of January 1, 2022, Brooke Santina will take over as the Executive Director for the non-profit. The former director, Ken Hamilton, informed the Nevada Day Board in December he would not be returning after holding the position for over a decade. The Board thanks Ken for his many years of service to Nevada Day and wishes him the best in his new endeavors.
“Brooke brings experience and new energy to Nevada Day. We are certainly looking forward to having her on our team,” said Bobby Bean, Nevada Day President.
A native Nevadan, Brooke Santina has experience handling large scale events through her work in Law Enforcement and Communications. As a deputy sheriff and public information officer for Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Santina handled media relations and communications during floods, wild fires, traffic crashes, officer involved shootings and other emergencies.
In 2015, Santina was hired by the Nevada Department of Corrections where she was in charge of internal and external communications and managing local, national and international media for all events at Nevada’s prisons. Most significant was the parole hearing and eventual release of OJ Simpson.
“No other state celebrates their birthday like we do in Nevada.” Santina said. “The parade is a fun reminder every year of our history and culture. I’m thrilled to be a part of it."
Santina is a mother of two grown children, holds a bachelor’s in communications from UNR and is also a published novelist.
Nevada Day is a not for profit 501c3 which exists to ensure that the celebration of our statehood continues each year with a parade taking place the last week of October in the capital, Carson City, Nevada.
