The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division is seeking information regarding a vehicle of interest that may have been involved in a crash Tuesday that occurred this morning at approximately 8:37 a.m. on I-580 at Neil Road in Reno.

Since April 15, 2024 the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the disappearance of 25-year-old Sara Fliliatraut. The investigation led to the discovery of Ms. Filiatraut’s remains in a remote area of Churchill County on May 22, 2024. An autopsy performed by the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Ms. Filiatraut’s death as a homicide.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Army National Guard joined the fight to halt the progression of western wildfires in California on Monday.

The annual Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club President’s Cup tournament took place July 16 and July 18 at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club Ranch and Lakes Courses. Thirty members competed in the two-day, net tournament. Terri Ianiro was the winner, with a net score of 133. Kory Miller was the runner-up, with a score of 134.

UPDATE: A 20-year-old Kentucky man, Owen Joseph McDonough, was positively identified as the drowning victim rescued from rough waters at Whale Beach located along the east shore of Lake Tahoe.

The family of the Villa Hills victim have been notified by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Coroner’s Division. McDonough was described by the family as an intermediate skilled swimmer.

On Sunday, July 28, 2024 at approximately 7:55 p.m. the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a call for service stating a male suspect was driving erratically, failed to stop at multiple stop signs and almost struck pedestrians and other vehicles.

UPDATE 5:38PM: Mop up work is underway at the landfill fire, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. The fire was around 2.5 acres in size and was fueled largely by windy conditions.

There was a brief threat outside the dump's boundaries, but it was quickly put down. The Carson City Sheriff's Office put a drone in the air to make sure there wasn't an extension, Pedrini said. The area that burned was made up of decomposed trash that likely combusted. There were no injuries.

I have ripe tomatoes! I bought my plants with flowers already on them at Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City. I always have the best luck with their tomato plants. The first to ripen were the orange cherries that I think are called ‘Sungold’. I harvested a small to medium-sized red tomato on my other plant as well.

Carson City emergency crews responded Sunday morning to an injured bicycle rider near Mexican Dam and Sierra Vista Lane.

Dry conditions and seasonal temperatures will continue this weekend, with the potential for smoke from the Park Fire moving into western Nevada region, including Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley, Lyon and Storey counties if there is any deviation in wind direction, according to the National Weather Service.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is attempting to locate a missing person. Sharon Contreras, 36, was last seen around the Carson City Courthouse and was reported missing by friends.

At 4 p.m. a crash was reported in the intersection of Highway 50 E and Saliman.

No injures are reported but traffic is blocked. Two vehicles collided with one towing a trailer. The trailer is reported to be tipped over in the intersection.

A two vehicle crash has closed down 5th Street from Curry to Nevada streets as of 3:50 p.m. Friday.

One vehicle reportedly ran a stop sign and struck another vehicle.

The speaker at the July 29th Democratic luncheon will be Kristin Luis, District Judge in Department Two of the First Judicial District of Nevada. The district covers Carson City and Storey County. She was appointed to that position by Governor Lombardo following the retirement of Judge James E. Wilson. She was sworn in on January 9, 2024 and is currently running for election to a full six-year term.
