Solving cold cases highlighted Tuesday at Carson City Rotary meeting, public invited
Mike Marty, co-founder and CEO of the Retired Investigators Guild (The RIG), will be the guest speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting.
The Rig is a national nonprofit based in Northern Nevada. It’s comprised of retired investigators and homicide detectives who assist law enforcement agencies in Nevada and around the country solve cold homicide cases. The public is invited to attend the meeting which takes place Tuesday, July 30, at noon, in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.
Marty retired from the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office as Chief Investigator. He also served as the State of Nevada’s lead homicide detective. He says the team at The Rig is currently working on dozens of cases. “We are currently working on 70 cases around the country. While I can’t name the cases, we are working on several horrific murder from the 70's, 80's, and 90's,” he said. “We use our advanced expert techniques, technologies, and science to help solve them.”
The RIG doesn’t charge for its services and is funded from both community and corporate donations.
“Generally, I can say that we breathe life into cases that, due to a number of issues, have otherwise would have gone unsolved,” Marty explains. “It’s important to provide answers to victims of violent crime, but it’s also about making communities safer across the United States.”
