The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Superintendent of Schools Andrew Feuling. Having served as the district's chief financial officer for eight years prior to taking over the top job, he has a detailed understanding of where the available revenue covers the cost of state mandates and where it doesn't. Exactly where the money and the mandates need to be brought into harmony will be addressed in Part Two of the Superintendent's PowerPoint presentation.

UPDATE 12:30 a.m.: The aircraft has been confirmed as a plane, and all passengers within it are deceased. The cause of the crash is still unknown.

UPDATE 12:11 a.m.: All fire personnel are leaving the scene.

UPDATE 11:34 p.m.: The area is being cordoned off until the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) can investigate. An ambulance was requested from Carson City, but there is no update on the crew as of yet.

UPDATE 11:15 p.m.: The downed aircraft has been located off of Iron Mountain and Shawnee.

UPDATE: 11:13 p.m.: Debris from the crash have been located on a property off of Iron Mountain near Stagecoach. Responders are are actively searching for debris from the flight. If you locate any debris, please do not handle it and call 911 to report its location.

Multiple agencies are responding to what appears to be a crash of a Care Flight aircraft in Stagecoach, according to Lyon County dispatch.

A Care Flight liaison is on route from Carson City to the scene of the crash.

Around 6:15 p.m. on Friday evening a crash with injury was reported in the area of Foothill Road and Kingsbury.

Further details of the crash are not available, but delays are possible.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a runaway juvenile.

We are attempting to locate Zoey Fagan, a 14-year-old white female juvenile.

Due to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) reporting severe weather and potentially dangerous road conditions, Governor Joe Lombardo has ordered an early closing for all state government offices in Carson City, Douglas County, Esmeralda County, Lincoln County, Lyon County, Nye County, Storey County, and Washoe County today.

Just before 1 p.m. on Friday a crash was reported on N. Carson Street near Wendy's.

Injuries are unknown, but traffic is blocked.

Motorists should seek alternate routes or use caution in the area.

James Rodney Stewart, 78, passed away January 28 after a brief illness. Born to Charles and Shirley Stewart on January 19, 1945 in Annandale, Virginia, the sixth child of nine offspring. He grew up an independent wandering spirit, often leaving school and family to find adventures and employment. He once worked as a jockey. Jim volunteered to serve as an Army soldier in Vietnam and was wounded after one and a half tours. After recovering in Hawaii he was stationed in Germany where he married and had three children; Clifford, Jimmy, and Rita. Jimmy preceded him in death in 1992.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is still asking for assistance in locating Richard Shifflet. He was last seen on October 3, 2022 when he left his residence in Dayton, for a walk.

Lyon County Search and Rescue had searched the area where Richard was last seen and areas where he was reported to frequent.

Due to travel impacts from regional winter storms, Douglas County Manager Patrick Cates has declared that all nonessential County offices are to close at noon today (Friday, February 24, 2023).

Douglas County courts will remain open for normal business hours.

Due to the weather and out of an abundance of caution for our Meals on Wheels drivers, staff, volunteers and seniors in the community, the Senior Center will be closed and Meals on Wheels will not be delivering today.

At 9:15 a.m., a crash was reported in the northbound lanes of I-580 and College.

Injuries are unknown.

Just before 9 a.m., a crash was reported at the intersection of Highway 50 and Spooner in Carson City.

It is not known if the crash is currently blocking traffic; however, Nevada State Police list the incident has having possible delays.

Here we go again, Carson City. Mother Nature is continuing to dump all the precipitation she has held back the last five years, and we just have to keep gritting our teeth and repeating “We need the water, we need the water.”

UPDATE FEB. 24: Deon Kincade was reported missing on 02/22/2023. She was last seen on 02/20/2023 at approximately 1220 pm and left her Dayton residence to run errands.

At present we have a witness that positively identified her in the area of Artesia Road in the Smith Valley area.

UPDATE 10:30 a.m.: WNC has also chosen to operate remotely Friday due to the weather. The campus, including the Child Development Center, will be closed.

MINDEN — With a new series of winter weather in the forecast, Douglas County urges residents to prepare in advance. According to the US National Weather Service in Reno, there will be a “significant winter storm Friday into Saturday, followed by a brief break before another major winter storm midday Sunday through Tuesday night.”

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing adult. The investigation division of CCSO is attempting to locate Marc Cole, a 50-year-old white male adult.

Recent Douglas County homeowner radon test results show 21 percent of the homes tested during that past few months have elevated levels of cancer causing radon gas. In fact, some test results show alarming numbers in the 60’s, which is 1,500 percent above the EPA’s action level of 4 PicoCuries per liter of air.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will be unable to issue driver licenses or learner permits on Saturday, Feb. 25, due to a planned Verizon network outage that will impact the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s Problem Driver Pointer System. This outage will affect all Nevada DMV offices regardless of location.

CARSON CITY — Western Nevada College, in collaboration with Redwood Materials, will develop and pilot a training program for new hires assigned to battery disassembly. The trainings will be offered on the Redwood Materials campus utilizing WNC’s Mobile Manufacturing Lab.

Carson City emergency crews were called Wednesday morning to a single vehicle crash in the area of Arrowhead and Technology Way.
