Nevada State Police identifies Arizona man in fatal Churchill County I-80 crash
Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division has identified an Arizona man who died Feb. 14 in a crash on I-80 in Churchill County.
Lyle Begay, 39, of Rock Point, Arizona, died at the scene of the crash involving a commercial motor vehicle on I-80, mile marker 86, according to a Nevada State Police news release.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a white Ford Fusion sedan, driven by Begay, was traveling westbound east of mile marker 86, approaching a commercial motor vehicle.
For reasons unconfirmed, the Ford Fusion struck the rear of the commercial vehicle. The driver of the commercial vehicle came to a controlled stop on the westbound outside shoulder, according to NSP.
The Ford Fusion and the commercial vehicle remained in contact until the fire department separated the two, NSP says. The driver of the Ford Fusion, Begay, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.
This marks the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol, Northern Command’s fifth fatal crash and firth fatality for 2023.
