NVFDW.org announces video contest

The Board of Directors of the Nevada Federation of Democratic Women (NVFDW) has launched the inaugural Annual Political Short Film Contest on Friday, December 1, 2023.

The contest will accept entries of up to 90-second videos promoting the NVFDW Platform and Democratic Credo from young adults and older who reside in the state of Nevada.

The Carson City School District and its governing board of trustees were highly distinguished at the Nevada Association of School Boards Annual Conference in Las Vegas this past weekend. District employees and trustees were heavily acknowledged, earning nearly half of all the awards (7 out of 16 – in 13 categories) presented among the 17 districts statewide.

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo on Tuesday announced James “Jimmy” Humm will be the new executive director of the Cannabis Compliance Board.

After 25 years as a local antique shop, Hanifin's Antiques in Carson City will close in the next few weeks. Owner Michael Robbins presented Carson City SPCA director Susan Paul with a check for $2,500. Robbins says he is very happy to donate to local charities in his last weeks in Carson City.

On Friday, Dec. 1, Carson City Moose Lodge No. 2709 members participated in the Empty Bowls fundraiser held at Carson Mall. Attendees were encouraged to purchase a hand crafted, unique pottery bowl from the Ogres-Holm Pottery Studio for a $15 donation and were then able to fill each with a soup, chili or spaghetti provided by 20 different local restaurants.

The Moose effort was coordinated by David Wroth and presented the check for $250 to Jim Peckham of FISH.

I met a magical horse recently. She loved having her picture taken, if that is not enough, she posed. After about 15 minutes of photographing her I finally went to my car. I took one last look at her before I left and she was happily galloping up the hill that was behind her. I couldn't write a more perfect story!

Mild temperatures continue through Tuesday before a couple of quick-moving storms will move in bringing gusty winds, Sierra snow and rain to the Carson City area, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City local and University of Nevada, Reno student Jake Sullivan Roman saved three people through organ donation in 2020. Donor Network West honored Jake and his family with the unveiling of his memorial “floragraph” portrait during a special event Thursday, Nov. 30.

Made entirely out of organic materials, Jake’s floragraph will be featured on the Donate Life parade float in the 135th Rose Parade happening Monday, Jan. 1, 2024 in Pasadena, Calif.

A Fallon woman has been identified in a fatal rollover on US-50A that happened Nov. 16 in Churchill County, according to Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol.

During Thanksgiving weekend and Cyber Monday, Nevada saw a surge in consumer activity, with an estimated $609.0 million spent by 1.9 million people on gifts, decorations and various merchandise, according to the Retail Association of Nevada.

A crash and potential hit and run was reported just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday near William and Golf Dust near the I-580.

Multiple callers reported significant damage and road debris, and possibly one car fled the scene.

Multiple lanes are blocked and motorists must seek alternate routes.

Just after 12:15 p.m. Saturday a crash with injury was reported on Clearview.

Two vehicles were reportedly involved, and one driver has injuries to their head.

Carson City Empty Bowls Planning committee wants to express their gratitude to the community for coming out to the 9th Annual Empty Bowls event held this past Friday, December 1st, at the Carson Mall.

Throughout the year, the committee invites the community to join them at Ogres-Holm Pottery to learn how to create, glaze, and design ceramic bowls for the event.

The much-anticipated name for the new ECHL hockey team making its home at the Tahoe Blue Event Center was announced Thursday night in front of over 1,000 enthusiastic local fans. The Tahoe Knight Monsters will start playing at the new center in October 2024.
