The nation’s largest free nostalgic classic car show, Hot August Nights, returns to Virginia City this weekend and then Reno for 10 days this summer. Capping registrations at 6,000 vehicles 1979 and older, this year’s event offers new venues, expanded reserved ticket options and added entertainment.

Students and employees returning to Carson Middle School in Carson City for the first day of school Monday, August 19, 2024, will notice a complete facelift of their school’s cafeteria.

Matt Axton, son of legendary country music star Hoyt Axton, will appear at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, with his band Badmoon, on Saturday, August3 at 7 pm. As part of the Red Dog's summer outdoor concert series, Axton will play a rocking fun show in Ruby's Amphitheater at the historic venue. Darren Senn opens the show.

Since April 15, 2024 the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the disappearance of 25-year-old Sara Fliliatraut. The investigation led to the discovery of Ms. Filiatraut’s remains in a remote area of Churchill County on May 22, 2024. An autopsy performed by the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Ms. Filiatraut’s death as a homicide.
