Red Wing Shoes in Carson City celebrates new ownership
On a warm and breezy Friday night, Bill Witt and his family, friends, and others came by the Red Wing Shoe Store at 444 E William Street in Carson City to join in the celebration of the store he now owns after having been an employee.
It was a dream come true for Witt and it was all smiles when he cut the ceremonial ribbon on July 27 to officially announce his new venture.
Red Wing Shoes have been around since 1905 and is named after the city where they were first established, Red Wing, Minnesota.
The company has been franchising since 1952 and now has over 500 locations across the U.S. with one in Carson City and two in Reno. The shoes are “comfortable, purpose-built footwear for hard-working people,” as stated on the company website. The shoes are also perfect for today’s smart-casual styling.
Long time fan Robert Parvin can attest to the comfort and long-wearing of the shoe. At the ribbon cutting on Friday night, he proudly wore and showed off the shoes he purchased and has been wearing since about 1970.
Assisting the Witt family with the ribbon cutting were Assemblyman PK O’Neill and Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell.
