Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021 there are 17 new cases and 8 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region. This brings the total number of cases to 11,071, with 8,663 recoveries and 203 deaths; 2,205 cases remain active.

During Thursday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, its Redevelopment Authority OK'd a plan to create a budget for improvement allocations throughout Carson City including new holiday decorations, new bike racks, historic trail signage on pedestrian and bike paths, sidewalk improvements and more.

The Nevada State Public Health Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine has detected the first known case of probable B.1.351 South African variant in Nevada. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the variant has been detected in 10 U.S. states, to-date.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — For over 100 years, some boat owners were known to scuttle their boats in Lake Tahoe instead of paying for dismantling or removal. In the case of the SS Tahoe, it was meant to be an underwater museum near the shore of Glenbrook in 1940 after spending years docked and rusting in Tahoe City, but a miscalculation of the slope caused the boat to sink to almost 400 feet under water. An underwater trail highlights boats and barges sunk in Emerald Bay.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — In Plain Sight Marketing turned off the lights and closed the door on its brick-and-mortar operation during the companies shift to an all-virtual agency this month.

Renee Plain, chief executive officer of IPSM, said the firm sent its employees home to work on March 13, 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve always been agile and we run a tight, lean operation,” Plain said. “What we learned about ourselves, our business and our people is that we are more creative, more productive and more collaborative than ever working from our home offices.”

Local theater performances were put on hold last spring in a joint decision by the Carson City and Douglas County Theater Companies’ Coalition. The goal of the coalition was to try to navigate certain challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, including social distancing restrictions.

I spotted a poor pitiful ornamental crabapple tree recently. All its branches and top had been mercilessly sawed off leaving disfigured stumps.
