In Plain Sight Marketing ditches brick and mortar digs, goes virtual; agency goes from Carson City based to statewide in nanoseconds
CARSON CITY, Nev. — In Plain Sight Marketing turned off the lights and closed the door on its brick-and-mortar operation during the companies shift to an all-virtual agency this month.
Renee Plain, chief executive officer of IPSM, said the firm sent its employees home to work on March 13, 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’ve always been agile and we run a tight, lean operation,” Plain said. “What we learned about ourselves, our business and our people is that we are more creative, more productive and more collaborative than ever working from our home offices.”
Plain said the company was quickly able to pivot to remote work due to its use of technology.
“We were using cloud-based storage, communications apps and productivity tools long before we decided to send everyone home,” she said. “This allowed for very minor interruptions in our client work, and because of that, we have grown our client base and hired additional team members.”
Technology also plays an even larger role in quality and inspiration, Plain said.
“We’ve always used analytics to evaluate our work,” she said. “Working remotely created even more opportunities to advance our data-driven strategies and create bigger, bolder campaigns for our clients.”
IPSM is not alone in the shift to virtual work at the onset of the pandemic, but it is standing out in its move to an all-virtual office. A recent Gallup poll indicates roughly a third of all workers report working from home last September, down from nearly half in April of last year.
Plain said the company to take on clients outside of Northern Nevada. Additionally, the company has expanded its recruiting efforts to a larger region.
In an industry propelled by relationships and networking, Plain said the IPSM team has learned to attend virtual networking events as well as set aside time for team building through a shared goal setting app designed to help team members get to know each other, and monthly virtual team lunches either in competitive play or simply sharing experiences unique to the virtual meeting culture arising from the pandemic.
“We’ve connected through our shared experiences over the past year in ways I don’t think we ever would have before,” Plain said. “For our team and for our clients, we are creating the bonds of friendship, mutual respect and shared humanity that enrich our creativity and innovation.”
